The Leftists Have a ‘Solution’ to California’s Budget Problems: Raise Taxes!! Grab Power! Novel!

The Leftists Have a ‘Solution’ to California’s Budget Problems: Raise Taxes!! Grab Power!  Novel!

California, the Golden State and land of opportunity, predicted to crash in a blizzard of debt[1] [2], is besotted with sleazy slimy liars who are thought to be politicos along a wide assortment of mental rejects with half-way house visions and the following is given as proof:

The completion of a budget that is 80 days late, tinged with painful program cuts and precariously "balanced" with questionable schemes represents more than a failure of 120 legislators and a governor to reach agreement in the best interest of the state. It is the product of a system that is almost wired for dysfunction”--[3] Reform California's budget process

Monday, September 22, 2008

We all know that. How about a solution?

"It's not like we don't know what to do" to reform the system, said Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto. "It's that we lack the political will to do it."

Then, why did you vote for higher and higher and higher salaries for government employees and higher and higher and higher taxes to pay for that? Did you receive money from the teacher’s unions? Huh? Here are some of this guy’s ‘achievements:’

*            Californians Against Waste, Legislator of the Year

*            Palo Alto Educators Association, Friend of Education Award

*            Sierra Club, In Recognition of a Lifetime of Commitment

*            Palo Alto Stanford Heritage Award, Preservationist of the Year

*            Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee, Friend of BAYMEC Award

*            Junior Statesman Foundation, Distinguished Leader Award

*            Housing Action Coalition, Housing Leadership Award

*           Billy DeFrank Lesbian and Gay Community Center, Friend of the DeFrank Center Award[4]

We just cannot wait to hear what a liberal Democrat like Joe would suggest:

Simitian's reform agenda would start with lowering the threshold for budget passage to a simple majority, modifying term limits to allow legislators to stay longer than six years in the Assembly and eight in the Senate and reforming the redistricting process so that lawmakers cannot shield themselves from competition.”[5] [This link references all quotes in this essay unless other wise indicated.][Emphasis is mine in all quotes]

Translated, this means giving 100% control of the legislature and budget process to the drug-crazed zombies of San Francisco, LA and wastelands like Oakland.  This creates the cronyism that we see in the inbred Kennedy Klan in Massachusetts. Just look at this crap:

[1] Supermajority requirement: California is one of just three states (Arkansas and Rhode Island being the others) that require a two-thirds vote of the legislature for passage of the budget. This allows a small number of legislators to hold the budget hostage, as California Republicans did again this year. Solution: Allow passage by simple majority. [This link references all quotes in this essay unless other wise indicated.][Emphasis is mine in all quotes]

Give p0wer to the majority! That sounds like democracy in action.

[2] Timeline: In a state of the size and complexity of California, legislators are hard-pressed to review the programs, hear the pleas of various interest groups and produce a consensus for a budget in time for the July 1 fiscal year. Solution: A two-year budget cycle.

Push off problems into the future. That is just great. Why not just barrow and barrow and barrow as NYC did?

[3] Proposition 13: The property-tax-limiting measure was passed by voters in 1978 under a rallying cry from voters who were worried about losing their homes. But the measure also brought an unadvertised windfall for commercial property. Some businesses have been exploiting a loophole that allows them to avoid a reassessment even when commercial property changes hands. Solution: Annual reassessments of commercial property would bring in several billion dollars a year.

When in doubt just raise taxes. Tax and tax whoring are the only things liberals understand in loony land. How about weekly reassessments of all private property in California?

[4] Ballot-box budgeting: Time and again, voters have approved spending mandates without identifying a source of funding for them. As a result, about 90 percent of the state budget is locked in. Solution: Voters should reject unfunded mandates.

Okay, how about a line item budget process that forces the revenues to be rigidly controlled and then the voters can choose which ones they want to pay for??

[5] Unaccountable legislators: Because lawmakers are allowed to draw themselves districts that are safe for one party or the other, too many of them play to the extreme - such as the Republicans who are digging in against a tax increase or the Democrats who won't budge on various cuts. Solution: Put the drawing of district lines in the hands of an independent commission, as proposed by Proposition 11, on the Nov. 4 ballot. Vote yes on 11.

This is called gerrymandering.  We wonder how such a process might work. We rest assured that it would be ‘fair.’ We can be assured that the Dems will cut waste and make spending cuts. Promise? We believe you. Why not let the illegal aliens vote [twice] for fairness?

Duh! Vote in Gavin Newsom for governor! Let the leftists have 100% control. They can be trusted.

When is Joe going to call for a federal bailout of California? I just cannot wait to fund some more of California’s lunatic programs from remote. That will just be swell.

If you have anything in terms of wealth or property or a high income then get out of California—fast.  Joe Simitian  and his allies will use the votes of illegal aliens to vote your wealth away from you and form a new Marist State.
