Chaos, Insanity, Politics and John McCain and the Need for a Brass Ring in His Nose.
Our political scheme of so-called democratic workings has been in disarray before the times and writings of Plato. Democracy has failed more times than it has worked. Chaos is the appropriate word to describe how we identify those who would make decisions for us every four years. Chaos is certainly the result if we look at Social Security or the National Debt, SAT scores, HUD, War on Poverty, Great Society or the quavering over whether or not we should coddle Islamo Fascists so they will not harm us again. Reminiscent of an auction of antique music machines, each candidate stands up on the illuminated dais and sings his or her best song to the wild applause of those who have no idea that this is mostly scripted to influence the mentally disnimble. This is like the birds do. The worms are thus enchanted and become the lunch.
Democracy was abandoned by the ancients because of the unpredictable effects of demagoguery. It seems that there was no way that the polis might gel in some consensus that would result in a vote that benefited the society as a whole. There was always the parasite office-seeker or other who would use fear, intimidation, bribes, lies and character assassination to sway the voters to and forth like a rubber tire swing from the old oak tree. Pendulum clichés were more than acceptable to sooth the voters with the phony notion that their time would come when the momentum swung back to their desires. From the polls we know, for certain, that the voters are not smarter than the average sack of rocks. Those who are adept in the political arena keep a careful track on those who would grab political power.[1]
We get some information about the current front-runner in the Party of Republicans.
“In 2006 -- the most recent year for which ratings are available -- McCain's ACU [American Conservative Union ]rating was 65. That year, the ACU rating for the other senator from Arizona, Jon Kyl, was 97. Even Chuck Hagel's ACU rating was 75, and Lindsey Graham's was 83.”
Here, we have a chance to analyze that the concept that McCain might be a conservative or some strange variant thereof is challenged, by the facts no less, but that is probably so much fluff in the election process. John McCain has created a new crazy quilt out of a few Republicans, some errant moderates, the silly putty of the political circus in both major parties and Independents, our largest party –a non party who decides who will win anyway. This mish mash of humanity will not rally behind John and deliver us a new vision or, perhaps, the old vision.
In the past, the Arizona Senator has strayed across the isle like a San Francisco liberal on LSD. This is tantamount to one of the Three Little Pigs sleeping with the Wolf or Alice cohabitating with the Mad Hatter.
Here are some of his sins from Ann Coulter:[2]
[1] “McCain voted against Bush's tax cuts twice.
[2] McCain is hysterical about pouring water down terrorists' noses and campaigns to shut down Guantanamo. “
Then:
”Because everyone knows he'll take the liberal position on social issues like abortion -- and everything else -- as soon as he doesn't need the voters of Arizona anymore.”
For this reason, he needs to be handled in the usual fashion employed to corral and train feisty primates. He needs to see the money bags, shown to him as a hint as to where his fortune lies, then a special brass ring needs to be attached to this nose so that as he peers across the bright metal he will always see the following edicts:
[1] I will not raise taxes no matter what.
[2] I will not consider any legislation sponsored by Ted Kennedy or Chuckles Schumer.
[3] I will cut social spending no matter what.
[4] I will not allow the Democrats to define education in the US. Vouchers are democratic.
[5] I will not sign any bills that support abortion, the ACLU or the Trial Lawyers Association.
[6] I will issue, upon swearing in, a Presidential Executive Order that creates 25 new nuclear power plants, drill 30 holes in ANWAR for oil and create 12 new oil refineries all to be completed in the next 20 months.
Fortunately, the Democrats wrestle with a problem much worse than the Republicans.
Where are the Greens when you need them?
