NEW YORK Oct 16, 2006 (AP) A firebrand civil rights lawyer who has defended Black Panthers and anti-war radicals was sentenced Monday to nearly 2 1/2 years in prison far less than the 30 years prosecutors wanted for helping an imprisoned terrorist sheik communicate with his followers on the outside.
U.S. District Judge John G. Koeltl pronounced the sentence of 28 months.

John G. Koeltl, 48, is currently a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton
in New York City, where he has spent the bulk of his professional
career. After attending Georgetown University and Harvard Law School,
Koeltl served as a law clerk to Judge Edward Weinfeld of the U.S.
District Court for the Southern District of New York and to Justice
Potter Stewart. Koeltl also served for two years on the Watergate
Special Prosecution Force at the Justice Department.

The judge said Stewart was guilty of smuggling messages between her client and his followers that could have "potentially lethal consequences." He called the crimes "extraordinarily severe criminal conduct."
But, she is a good liberal who tried to get Black Panthers off. Give her a break.
But in departing from federal guidelines that called for 30 years behind bars, he cited Stewart's more than three decades of dedication to poor, disadvantaged and unpopular clients.
Big deal. I wonder if the Boston Strangler was kind to his cat? Typhoid Mary was probably fond of flowers. I wonder if the judge will be at the party as one was when Angela Davis was let off. Many of the jury were there too. Nice liberal celebrations.
"Ms. Stewart performed a public service, not only to her clients, but to the nation," Koeltl said.
Here we see the slimy left pervert the law. We convict some aid-to-terrorism and give them a slap on the bunny because they were kind to orphaned lice or some other phony excuse. I am surprisided the phony judge didnt let her go because she was too fat or too ugly and would suffer behind bars. Maybe she can remain free until she gets her teeth fixed.
